Steeda Timing Adjuster 1996-2002 One of the 'modifications' that 5.0L guys take for granted is the ability to
adjust their timing. With the distributorless system of 4.6L Mustangs, timing isnt so easy to adjust. The solution? Steeda has come up with a product that changes the location of the timing sensor and timing ring. This
allows the user to adjust timing by adjusting the timing ring. Needed Parts
Needed Tools
Below is how the timing sensor is located on the 4.6L engines. What you dont see is a timing ring, similar to the one provided in Steeda's kit, behind the timing chain cover.
Relocation of the timing sensor
- Unplug the timing sensor plug. - Remove the 3 AC compressor bolts. - Remove the timing sensor bolt. - Install the timing sensor relocator. - Bolt the sensor to the end of the sensor relocator. - Bolt the 3 AC compressor bolts.
Installing the new timing ring
- Remove the stock harmonic balancer bolt. (Make sure you take out the stock harmonic balancer bolt washer too.) - Clean the keyway of any additional silicon. - Set the timing ring to the desired degree. (Picture illustrates 14 degrees.) - Bolt the timing ring with the Steeda supplied bolt to 115lbs. (Make sure the notch on the timing
ring holder's notch lines up with the keyway.) - Zip tie the timing sensor plug wiring so it doesn't come in contact with the accessory belt. - Plug the timing sensor plug back to the timing sensor. Below is a picture of the final product.
